Draw a light upon the waters… Can you hold it tight? Can you follow it? is a sculpture created in response to Rebecca Solnit’s The Blue of Distance. Precious materials of hand-dipped indigo and hand-spun wool are highlighted by techniques utilizing absence - gradient of saturation, open face warp - to create a transparent veil that captures and distorts light like ripples of water. This object is a portal suspended in air, appearing as if to float away and held down only by five distinct weights, reckoning with the tension and magnetism of loss, longing, and the desire to capture the intangible.
